Americana, Ergonomic Modernist Make Do Rocking Armchair
c. 1940
painted wood, fence posts, nails, steel hardware

Remarkable Art Deco era chair with a beautifully planed armrest design. Backing is made from old fence posts splayed out to fit the body, a more acute aspect within the ergonomic vernacular is the rocking base, composed of two pieces of carved plywood holding the seat’s planks which mirror the curve of a sitting person’s body.

Well constructed and sturdy.

Recovered from a home in central Michigan.
