J. S. Ford, Johnson and Company, Rocking Armchair
c. 1905-1910
wood
28 1/2 x 31 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches

Exceedingly rare rocking armchair produced by the Midwest’s one time finest, J. S. Ford, Johnson and Company. A version without the rocking base is in the collection of several prominent institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Met.

This example was owned by a worker at the factory where the chair was produced and maintained by two subsequent generations. Homemade repairs are visible to the underside. Some minor cosmetic issues not affecting the stability or usability.
